In tribute to my father!!

.........its been 8 years since my dad passed away. Somedays it seems as if he just left us, and other days seem like its been forever since he's been gone. He was a hard-working man. A man of great faith in his Lord. Towards the end of his life he would ask me about my walk with Jesus. We would share things and read scripture together while he was taking his treatments sometimes. He imparted into me the value in family, just how important family is, from structure to forgiveness. He forgave and he overcame many obstacles in his life. I so miss his wisdom. Others may say that he wasn't wise, but he walked in Godly wisdom, of which the world isn't familiar with. I remember looking at him the last Christmas we were all together as a family, and those blue eyes of his looked thru me and had a look of longing, only to realize that after he passed I believe that longing was for heaven...he must have known his time was near to see his Jesus face to face. I miss him today and everyday, the pain of loss is gone, but the joy of knowing that I will see my father again someday makes my heart sing!!!!!!
Blessings of peace and joy to all!!!

What a sweet Father/Daughter relationship you must have had. I think thats a rare thing in most families. A Godly Father...I almost can't imagine. My Father prayed the sinner's prayer at the end of his life...during the time he had the brain tumor. Most times his mind wasn't clear the last few months...but there was a day and time when the deacon of our church visited him and asked him if he would like to pray for salvation and he did! I'm so thankful for that..smile. You know what your post reminded me of...hope you don't think this is silly. The Elsie Dinsmore books. I love the relationship between Elsie and her Father. So loving and special, a picture I think of us and our Heavenly Father. I'm glad for you that you have such precious memories...what a blessing. Missing our family passed on, is very hard sometimes, but our God gives grace doesn't he!

Hello Mindy...The Elsie Dinsmore books are collectables written by Martha Finley. You can find them on ebay sometimes. They have been reprinted recently and are sometimes available at 'Christian' bookstores too. The 1st book is simply called...'Elsie Dinsmore' and there are about oh 30 books in the original series. The first 10 books or so are the ones I've really enjoyed...after that they get historical. They are about a little girl whose Mother died and she is left with relatives to be raised. She has a Scottish (i think) nurse who is a born again Christian and she leads little Elsie to get saved and love Jesus at a tender age, of course there is great opposition to sweet Elsie's faith by her own Father especially. Perhaps you could find one at a public library sometime and see if its your 'cup of tea'...smile. Here is the bit of poem that starts out the chapter of the first book. 'I never saw an eye so bright, And yet so soft as hers; It sometimes swam in liquid light, And sometimes swam in tears; It seemed a beauty set apart..For softness and for sighs.' I think these books were written for children but became immensely popular by many.

Oh Mindy this made me cry. There is something about a strong Father/Daughter relationship that tugs on my hearts strings and brings tears flooding. Why? I don't know. Perhaps because I dread the day I see that same longing in my own precious Dads eyes. Perhaps because I know how amazing it is to be loved by a wonderful, decent man. Perhaps because no other relationship provides the same certainty, the same security as that of a Father and daughter.
