Thoughts for Today~

While we are still having temperatures in the upper 90's..especially today, we are expecting cooler temperatures towards the end of the week.!! I'm thrilled with that. When the cooler weather comes, I find myself seemingly having alot more energy, and feel much more motivated and creative. The lazy days of summer have come and gone, and the crispness of the Harvest season comes upon us. As I have said before..it is my favorite time of year. Lots to do to ready my abode for the season too. I haven't had the urge to get my box of simple Autumn decor out yet, but it just may happen this week. I have a pumpkin topiary that I made in honor of my mother's 80th Birthday. I made two of them and gave one to my Mom, and kept one for myself. Its great to come into the entryway/foyer, and be welcomed something lovely in keeping with the season! I have made small changes such as, changing out the candle scents to those of the Harvest season: Macintosh Apple, Cinnamon, Orange and Clove, even the plug-ins in the various rooms have been changed out. Taking the Autumn theme to the outdoors as well...potted mums, scarecrows, pinecones in baskets, grapevine swags with twinkling little lights, all part of the season for me. Last night I got out my old"Victoria" magazines for Fall, that I have purchased at either Antique shops, or yard sales....i look to them for some inspiration, then do a variation of my own. I don't do huge changes to my home, just touches here and there, creating and changing as I go along. I put on some beautiful instrumental praise and worship music, or some Celtic praise, and start in the entry area, then on to the living and dining room, then ending up in the family room and kitchen area. The baths get hand towels with Autumn appliques on them and a candle. My cozy throws and plump pillows will be places next..and there you have it.... Our little home, "Providence Gate", will be decked out for Harvest time and the celebrations that will come. "By all these lovely tokens September days are here,With summer’s best of weather And autumn’s best of cheer".- Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885

Good morning, I read your comments on my stuffintheburbs blog...I'm not quite sure why you'd be able to post on one and not the other...my techy DH says to right click the comment button and then click open a new window...viola...hope that works...

Thanks for the inspiration ... the candles, pillows, additional throws, etc. ... all making an entrance soon! Changing things around helps me appreciate all I have.

It's just kind of hard to get in an autumn mood when it's still so hot! But the touches you describe adding to your home sound lovely.

Wow, you sound just like me! I feel SO much better once the temperatures come down. I am generally so unmotivated during the summer heat, which lasts way too long where I live!
We have a cooling as this week ends too--yay!

Enjoy that refreshing cool air!

What a good idea to get out the Fall issues of Victoria...that goldmine of homemaking =). I enjoyed visiting you as always, love your quote...I'm quite addicted to sipping the honey out of them and its an extra gift when they are an added gift at the end of a post like yours =). Thanks for reminding me of all the sweet things about fall...I'm reluctant to let summer slip away, as hot as its been.
