This is the fireplace/mantle in our family room. We purchased the mantle a few years ago and my husband retro-fitted it to the existing mantle/shelf that was already there. Eventually we will tear out the old tile and the shelf on either side of the fireplace surround so it will be a flat surface. The old kerosene lamp was my grandmothers (Mema) and she gave it to me when I was 13 years old! The pictures in the vintage lolking frames are of my and my sis when we were little, my mother and father on their wedding day, and of Nicholas our grandson. The plate is what I just purchased at the antique outing with my sis last week, and in the little shot glass of my grandfathers' is some dried purple statice.....the scape of the mantle changes from time to time...in the spring it lightens up a bit with a vase of flowers from the yard and more candles....just little subtle changes to let us know that spring is here!
We had rain most of yesterday and overnight...its so welcomed too! We needed it so badly. Right now the sun is trying to come out. I love how it smells after that rain, fresh and clean...and the plants are washed and look so bright, lively! Not sure what I will do today...have plans...but they just may have to change a little so I can go out and enjoy the yard after the rain!!!

I love it! Gosh that fireplace is so lovely and vintage. Do you live in an old house?

love the mantle!! I have my stepdad's mom's oil lamp and wouldn't take anything for it.

Thank you for the kind comments about my mantle...we don't live in an old house...but oh do I wish it was at times!

What a beautiful mantle! We've a rainy day here and I just am enjoying it so much. There's no need to rush about dusting and so on. Anyone knows that housework should be done in sunshine only...you can see the dirt then..smile. Well, it works for me anyway!
